Vesak Day

Its Vesak Day right smack in the middle of the week!

Day started with a little secondary school reunion over pizza at Parkway. It was nice, 5 of us catching up, how scary is it that when some of them returned to good ol Tanjong Katong that they are now colleagues with our own school teachers! Pizza Hut gave us 9 drumlets instead of 10 so they topped up a lil sad drumlet alone in a basket. Haha, that's Suhana's new camera in the pictures, she bought the Canon IXUS II, damnnn nice! After lunch we all went winter coat shopping for Suhana, she's off to Melbourne in a month!

Being Vesak Day, celebrations all round. There was a big one near my place around Aljunied, pics attached here as well, bathing of the Buddha, lotus lights, the works!

Went to see Peter Kruder spin at Velvet, got an invite thanks to Hammie! He was just awesome I am reaping the after effects of a really good set with painful calves and blocked ears the following morning. Totally worth it and I have never been to Zouk twice in a month until..... I found out....... David Morales is spinning on Friday!! That's in 2 days!! That's twice in a week and my calves still hurt!! But if there's company, Morales here I come!

Happy belated Vesak Day! And did you really have to show me that gorgeous h/p AGAIN? Thu 17-Jun-2004 01:50

Paying it foward

I just watched the news and I felt strongly abt this so had an urge to write. This school adopted this movement called "Paying it forward" - Its one deed, one lifetime. I dunno whether they even watched the show to have an idea about the deeds being big but come on, doesn't the word one lifetime give you a clue it has to be something huge and not just putting 20 cents in a flag day box? So anyways, the jist is this: A teacher starts a good deed for one of the students and that student does another good deed for another person and so on and so forth. Its a movement and they have the whole June holidays to get inspired. 2 kids who already started (they must have been like what? 11, 12 yrs old) were interviewed and their paying it forward deed was this lah...

Kid 1: My friend was in the hospital so I visited her.

Kid 2: (the visitee) I was so touched so I felt better and when another of my friends got sick, I made her a get well card and went to see her in hospital.

LEH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is your ONE DEED in your LIFETIME?!!!! Come on, I know they are kids and all but these kids have every capability on a normal day to day basis to go to hospitals and pay a visit to whomever. What is the big deal??? If this movement wasn't started, you would decide not to see your friend? I'm getting a feeling these kids didn't get to watch the original show and have no idea how "huge" these deeds have to be. Maybe the teachers are afraid that kids being so easily influenced are going to want to give their fathers Merceds Benz to any random person on the street. Even so, is that such a bad thing? I could do with a new car......

So anyways, my point is this: Its a load of crap, if its going to be on the NEWS, it should at least be inspiring. "I didn't eat recess for a month so I could buy an orphan a doll", "I walked to the old folks everyday and spoke to some old people who have no kids and no family"

Something that would have made a difference, not I went to Tan Tock Seng.

Aww, Maria - relax! Something is better than nothing...hehe Thu 17-Jun-2004 01:52

Maria I got a new phone today! Was eligible for upgrade so was looking around and the new nokia 7200 caught my eye but I realised I didn't wanna pay $500 buckeroos for a radio, camera and video function which I really dun need. So on the way to the Science Centre, I came across this 2nd hand phone shop in Jurong and LO AND BEHOLD!!! I found the Samsung T500 phone I wanted since 1941! In red!! So happily traded in my very used 7210 (we had some good times *sniff*) and walked home happily with my new buy!

I know its devalued and all but come on, the LCD screen doubles up as a mirror when the phone is off! If thats not a reason to buy a phone I dunno what is!

Next was the Lord of the Rings exhibition.... (no cameras allowed, what a bummer) what a money making scam lor!! Wah liew,,,, as if 20 bucks entrance wasn't cut throat enough, if you wanted to have a pic of you taken with a partner so you look like the freak giant in Big Fish and he looks like Gimli, it was another 5 bucks! That and a whole load of other shams like posters and rings for a mere $10... *bish* Faiz bought a nice WitchKings sword so I wasn't the only one that spent an obscene amount of money yesterday
My 2nd favourite character after Viggo Mortenson as Aragorn has gotta be Andy Serkis as Smeagol, he was absolutely brilliant, him and gollum juice *clapclap* and the fella who played Lurtz, leader of the Orks, takes 11 hours to get his costume on. Whoa! Try ah sitting still for 11 hours, and you thought ur work hours were long!!

Then it was off to church for the 25th anniversary celebration. The stained glass was dedicated today, that is 4 whole months of sheer hard work for most, think we saved close to 90K cos we did it ourselves instead of getting it done professionally. Still looks really nice tho ah?

Then it was standard Saturday supper fare - cheese prata!! And of course, guess who paid Newasia a short visit? It was only for an hour!!!!

I just realised this is the longest word entry I've written so far, quite fun ah!!!

Maria: Went to see godson jujubes last night (he's terrified of my nightmare camera flash so he looks frightened in most pics!) and Venessa did my nails so pics are attached here. Today passed my first driving evaluation, met Suhana for coffee, went Alpha, prata supper and came back to play with Pebbles. Pics of her attached here as well!
