Happy Birthday Maria!!!
|
|
KL was a prelude to my birthday, the time spent there with everyone was fantastic, it was great waking up to hugs, smiles, great company and corporate rates!! The wonderful girls even incorporated a birthday surprise in KL where everyone endured a 2 hr cab ride to visit a firefly park. It was something else seeing rows and rows of bushes sparkle in pitch black darkness like christmas trees whilst on a boat ride. I had an amazing time!
Lemme try and recap my birthday, the Thursday before the day, Nicole kicked off the festivus by leaving me lil notes on my pc to the pantry freezer where a surprise tub of Ben and Jerry's Oatmeal Cookie Chunk ice cream waited patiently for its massacre. Friday, Venessa bought me a box of Royce Chocolates (she woke up in the morning to pass it to Nicole!).
Sherin went out with a very big bang on Monday, she called to tell me we had dinner reservations somewhere very special. I showed up at Sharon's house to a surprise sit down dinner with some very important people and all my favourite foods! Sherin had Melissa and Sharon question me the week before on what foods I'd like to have before I died. And the menu was catered to every single thing I said! Siglap yong tau foo, Sherin's white wine chicken, Venessa recreated some power fish cutlets, Esmirada's tiramisu! Oh I ate and ate, and these are my friends everyone. Not only do they tolerate my gluttony, they make an occasion out of it! Thanks for all the effort Angel for the cooking, the planning and to everyone who was there.
Birthday eve, was telling Suhana all about my festivus and not wanting to feel left out, she sent me a video which she made herself about our friendship. I told myself I would hold it together but 3 seconds into the video, James Blunt's You're Beautiful played and she had text that read: Dear Maria, beautiful things remind me of you. I just lost it ah...
BIRTHDAY! Sherin came down to meet Nic and I for lunch, we had a massive ribs and fried mushrooms lunch at Jerry's. I realised then that I had been averaging about 8,000 calories a day for the past week but was loving every minute of it! I came back to 2 bouquets of exquisite white flowers - from Sherin and my brother. Dev wrote me an email wishing me a happy birthday and saying how nice it was to feel so loved on your birthday, and wow, loved I felt... I went to cell and we had some amazing tiramisutra cake, its amazing what festivus was doing for my appetite!
2 more days of celebrations so hang in there ok! Friday had dinner with my family at Pontini's. Heard good reviews about the place but we were all disappointed. The food was soo expensive, $15 for a bowl of soup - go figure!! And service was quite slack, refusing to replace wine when it spilled all. Spoiler and very overrated. Finished off on Saturday - watched Quidam and then had a night picnic at the Botanical Gardens (i know, extra rite?) and thereafter to Gotham Penthouse. VJ, GaoJu, Shinny, Ben, Faiz, Elfy, Bern, thank you all for coming!
To Angel, Melissa, Sharon, Venessa, Nicole, Shane, Suhana and everyone who made everything happen in one way or another, thank you so very much. God has blessed me with your friendships and I am a richer person because of it.

Happy Birthday Venessa!!!
|
|
Have a couple of events before KL so we will upload these in a chronological order!
Venessa's birthday celebration started on a Sunday. Her mum cooked a fantastic dinner and called us (Sherin and I) on the sly. We were already going but told Venessa we couldn't make it and showed up for a lil surprise! She jumped when she saw us through the peephole and rushed to change before even opening the door hahaha ! Her mum worked her magic with her signature dishes - sweet potato leaves with coconut milk, shepherds pie, butter prawns the works! We brought our mommies as well so it was all very fun and wholesome.
During the week, we took a day off and brought Venessa out on a whole day of fun. We picked her up at her place and asked for an overnight bag to be packed for her but it wasn't there! Because we had to pack a bag, we would have missed McDonald's breakfast. Sherin called the manager and placed an earlier order and they promised they would keep some breakfast items aside for us. We scooted to the nice Mac's at Queensway next to the Tea Garden and what made the whole thing even nicer was the very sweet manager Lenny who not only got our items ready with special order tags on them, she arranged for balloons and a lil sundae with a candle and a happy birthday sign for Venessa. Mad props !!
After a gao gao brekkie, Venessa and I headed off to The Legends at Fort Canning where we had massages done, she a traditional Indonesian massage and me a hot stones one. I was a lil disappointed with my hot stones massage, didn't feel any difference after I walked out, how relaxed am I already?? Sherin was getting Venessa's next surprise ready - a movie experience at her house! Sherin got Venessa's favourite movie snacks out - chilli chips and peach tea and closed her curtains and lit candles for a cinematic experience. We sat Venessa down to Love Actually (the best movie in the world!) and armed ourselves with a box of tissues. Its my what, 5th time watching it now? And Sherin and I seem to cry more this time than all the others, its magical I tell you! Then we cut some butterfly cakes Sherin's mum made (cos Venessa loves butterflies and buttercream) and then we sprung the news on her that she wasn't going home and was staying the night out with us!
We didnt think she'd react to the news too well but she did and we were sooo glad so we dashed off to Sharon's place and got ready for dinner at the Chatterbox. Headed off to Momo where we had a couple of drinks, Coco Latte was closed so we stayed on at Momo and called it a night! Happy Birthday again Venessa, you're a star in our books and we hope you had a brilliant birthday this year!

Rockstar: INXS
|
|
Sherin's rooting for JD, after Marty blew me away with his rendition of Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd, he did rise up rapidly in my ranks. And we also have a soft spot for MiG after watching him in his We Will Rock You musical in London. How exciting is this? This is it. Right now, INXS has a new front man and in honour of the finale tonight, here is our pick of the top ten INXS blunders we picked from the message boards. In true fashion David Letterman style....
10. Dave asking Jordis in a Dr. Evil voice, "Are you losing a little fire?" complete with frown, pouty lip and head tilted to the side.
9. The way INXS bobs up and down during performances like the characters in "A Night at the Roxbury"
8. When Mig sang "painted black" my friend said they were all singing "painted slacks" last week in honor of mig's getup!
7. Brooke saying that Dave is one of Rock and Roll's sexiest men...I find him to be a bit too gnome-like, and could his pants BE any tighter? Still it was good of him to lend the fawn colored faux buckskin ensemble to Mig last night, I guess he doesn't lend out the socks he stuffs them with though, that's just too personal.
6. Ty's "My People" speech after he was eliminated -- And I don't think it had anything to do with RACE if you know what I mean.
5. Brooke fishing for compliments from Dave on her outfits (almost seems rehearsed though doesn't it?)
4. Sorry...but JD telling INXS hes looking forward to the next 10 to 20 years with the band????? In a nursing home maybe? Get real
3.Neal grabbing his 'package' and screaming at the fans and INXS "You want a piece of this?!"
2.Suzie after forgetting the word on her first performance saying JD should have memorized the words for the song at recording clinic
1. Will - why was he there?
