Sherin- Happy New Year!! Okie people! My first resolution of this year! To be more active in writing our entries- it is My blog too!! So Maria! I'm sorry for being such a lazy kia all this time and I'll definately start pulling my weight here- I Love you!!! K! We didn't really feel like partying after the recent tragedy.....it just didn't feel right...so we decided to do things on a much smaller scale then our usual excessive way. I'll start with the night before New Years. We were at Tattoo with Shane and Nicole, talking abt a year gone by when we got a call from Vijay who decided he was coming down to join us. It was a few minutes before his birthday -yup! the man was born on New Years Eve! So we decided to surprise him with a $1.50 cake slice from 7 eleven. Hey! it was the best we could do on such short notice! So we lit candles and embarrased him in the middle of Far East Plaza. Happy Birthday VJ- we love u man!!
The next day, we started out with meeting everyone at Far East, Shane,Nicole, Burn and Shane's friend Jason and headed down to York Hotel where VJ had a suite! It was gorgeous!!! Big and spaciaous with 2 bathrooms! We then headed down to The Boom Boom Room. It's closing soon so we figured we would spend our last New Years at the place. We love Boom Boom, it's one of the first places where we were regulars at and it's sooo sad that it's endng soon. We met a real dear friend from the pastt! -Alison! After a nice set of stand up comedy and dances, we ushered in the New Years. We had a round of hugs and kisses and stayed for 2 dances before we went to Chijmes to meet Farhat, Faiz and newlyweds Shazlee and April.
Chijmes was beautifully decorated. The place was glowing with lights and a huge Christmas tree in the middle. Truly breathtaking. We decided to go to China Jump and we ended up staying till 5- surprisingly, we were all very sober!!- a first for us I think! We ended a nice night at Shah Alam with Cheese Pratas and Mee Goreng which had only tomato sauce and some taugeh in it!!! i suppose they'd ran out of ingredients by 6am! haha!
Anyways, I went home feeling really grateful to have spent a special night with those closest to me. I guess in times like these, you really appreciate the people and things around you that you may taken for granted. It was soo nice spending time with the fellas, it really felt like the old days.
I wanna take this chance in thanking everyone I have loved or even disliked in the past year. You were all stars in my show and for that I thank you. Happy 2005 everyone.

On the first day of christmas, my true love gave to me 3 benefit powder puffs!
Check it out I had such a Benefit Xmas! My 3 Kitty Powder Collection (Thank you Sherin!), Eyecon, (Thank you Nic!), The Lip Gloss (Thank you Jacinta!) along wth 2 samples of Dear John Moisturiser and Honey Snap Out of It Scrub samples! Sherin got her Hollywood Glow and Bathina Body Cream and she also got her Mum a foot cream called Sandal Scandal which comes complete with lil pom pom booties. Too adorable!
Sherin and I had the whole week off so we had a lil getaway with Melissa housesitting Nikki's house. Its a getaway because Nikki lives in a beautiful townhouse that comes complete with a pool and because her house has such a nice log effect it felt like we were living in cabins with a nice Xmas tree and all! We went to JB on one of the days were we had cheap massages done and a massive seafood dinner! We had 2 kinds of prawns. a thai fried rice, tomyam soup, kailan, hot plate tofu and a whole steamed fish for less than 25 sing bucks per person! My fav part also included the shopping at City Square, I got 3 surf t shirts at FOS for 15 bucks each and new Indian slippers from Vincci. JOY!
Only bummer of the festive season was me losing my diamond ring. And my phone. Two heartaches in a row. Wasn't too sad abt the ring though, I bought it when I just started my job proper so maybe its time for a new change and a new direction! Phone was a heartache, yeah I hated it but I asked the 2nd hand hp dealers how much I could get for it and he said $150 so yeah I basically flushed the cash down the toilet. Hey on that note, msg me your number on MSN or sms it to me cos all my numbers got wiped out. And apologies to anyone whose messages I did not reply over Xmas, had to cut my line.
Back to Nikki's house! It was pure relaxation for 2 days, we made ourselves good pancake breakfasts (which we had at 4pm) and Sherin cooked voonderba pasta dinner for us while we exchanged presents. Its back to work in a couple of days so I figured I'll wait til work starts to upload the NYE photos. You know, to hold on to some glimmer of good times.

This was a really special wedding for us, it's Hafiz's and Azreen's wedding!!! Time has flown to a point when we all started hanging out and Hafiz was the oldest one in the group at 23. Now 5 years later I'm his age and he's settled down. When he gave a speech to everyone he said: "See, now I have a wife already "
The wedding wasn't like any other, they enacted a huge white canopy tentage and it had such a nice outdoorsy feel to it. It was huge and they had nice walkway and pretty decorated tables. The grooms were dashing in their indian kutas and the brides were beautiful in their saris. Plural for bride and groom because the ceremony was also held for Shazli and April, Hafiz's cousin from Canada who had the ceremony for the family here in SG. When April had to give her speech, she broke down and thanked everyone for accepting her into the family with such open arms. Alala...
The music and dance were all Bollywood inspired, the dance presentations were awesome. One of the boys could really shake it! He was so young but the way he moved, he conquered the stage, talented lil bugger! He blew me away...
Mum and Mario came for the wedding too because Mario and Hafiz were primary school classmates and Mum taught them both when they were tiny 12 year old tods. Small world! Must have been a milestone for Mum watching her students grow up and getting married!
The wedding was in short, familiar yet spectacular, grand yet personal, emotional yet joyous and had very much the feel that it was a family member up there getting married and because Hafiz and Azreen are so special to us, I guess that was what it was. All our love to the happy couple, a blessed marriage and a wonderful life ahead .

Haven't updated in awhile so this entry is a mix of a few photos! Nothing much happened this week, Mario has put up the Xmas tree. And like every other year, he feels he has the privilege to stick his sock right up there with the angel and hang Mark's (my older brother) and mine on the sadder lower branches. Its tradition to rearrange our sock positions anyways and its also tradition to have the tree slant no matter how hard we try. A natural Quasi. The optic fibres don't work this year so there are no lights as well!
Last week Sherin was involved in a play for a doctor's convention at Suntec. She played a chio bu patient - very Paris Hilton with her satin bandage and all! That was the same week my boss came down from HK so Sherin and I brought her to NewAsia for the whole novelty food and drinks and then took her to the Boom Boom Room to see Kumar. She caught most of the local jokes - I think! So that was rather fun, after all that brought her for an office tour at 2am in the morning cos it was rather nearby.
Got really pissed with a hairdresser this week. I wanted to dye my hair black and get some red streaks in them so I found a salon that carried the look and colour I wanted - L'oreal Maji Contrast. Had a consultation with him and he told me he would charge me $75 X 2. Because I would need to come down twice and each package costs $75 - a cut, colour and treatment. So the first time I went down, I intended to get the cut, the black base and the 1st treatment. He said the whole thing would take abt 2 and a half hours. I said I had no time if he could just cut it first. So he did and charged me $24 bucks. When I came in next for the black dye and the treatment, I expected him to charge me $75-$24 bucks but nooooo, he said I had to pay the $75 anyways cos the rate was applicable for all 3 things only if they were all done in the same day. Gee, THANKS!
I paid him anways but it just made poor business sense to me. I'm sure as heck not gonna go back to these guys to do my highlights so he's lost $75 from me. I'm gonna tell a friend who will tell a friend who will tell a friend and he'd have lost more than one customer! A high price to pay for 24 bucks! I like the black hair though so will stick to it for awhile before I put any red in it.
Okie I have a secret receipie for a surefire cure for flus and a runny nose. My fruit shop sinseh made me a juice which consisted of get this: Starfruit, cucumber, lemon and GINGER. No ice and put in some salt. Its disgusting but it really works. (ITS WORKS!!!) 20 mins after the vile concoction and I went from drippy nose to good as new. So there, a little bit of healing advice if you're one of the many down with the flu bug.
Will get back in the regular swing of uploading pics cos we have the office Xmas party on Friday and a big wedding on Sun so stayyyy tuneeedddd!

Bridget Jones, Beatel-Mania & a Wedding!
|
|
We're such sabo kias. There was a contest for Singapore's Bridget Jones, so we slyly took Sherin's pic and mailed it in! Guess what? She got picked!! She had to go on stage at Wisma Atria and dun think she was too upset cos we had loads of fun and she won some really good prizes! Check out the stunt where they had to slip on grandma undies on male strangers ahahaha! Watch the Edge of Reason girls if you haven't really done so, remember it to be funnier than the first one...
Went for Faiqa's wedding in the afternoon, caught Faiz and Hyder wearing the same shirt! No luck trying to get them to pose together for a pic...
Beatel-Mania at night! Went for the tribute band concert and it was quite enjoyable! John Lennon looked quite authentic, the rest didn't... although "McCartney" had a nice voice. They did all the nice songs but they didn't sing "All you need is love"
Prior to this concert we asked a few friends if they wanted to come and watch the Beatles in concert. One of them asked? "How would that even work?" Muahah! Sherin and I tried winning tickets to watch Sting in concert, so we got our butts up on stage and did a retro dance sequence. Didn't win though, haiz. Maintained a bit of dignity by making sure we DID NOT attempt any Mambo Night @ Zouk moves!

Happy Birthday Melissa!!
|
|
Celebration #1 was at Esmiradas at Orchard Hotel. Food there is awesome, the garlic bread and tiramisu is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! You're thinking, how great can garlic bread and tiramisu be rite? Well this is someone who has eaten abt 30 varieties of tiramisu so trust me when I say its good. Its better than good. Its divine. Menu was not too diverse but we all managed to order something different. It was crowded enough to do platebreaking at 9 so Whoapah *smash plate*. Not sure how safe it is considering you are eating around flying shards of glass but theraputic nonetheless.
Celebration #2 was a surprise at the Swissotel! This we pulled off quite well. We got a friend Sheila to bring Melissa on the pretext of visiting her friend from Italy whose name was Mario. (How dubious was that) Melissa launched Sheila into a whole "Is everything ok with your boyfriend, do you not like him anymore?" speech so that was hilarious! Sheila must have felt like caving about 50 times . We tried to make the party very chic and mature, (and you know you succeed when there's maraschino cherries and pocky sticks for drink garnishes) and then ended the whole night with a naughty all girls only show . Proceeded to Newasia bar after that but one of the bouncers gave us a hard time when it came to re-entry stamps because we didn't spend $20 on drinks inside. What the heck? So we went down and the nice bouncers said there was no such rule (obviously, cos then we could just pay cover!!) and gave all of us reentry stamps without even looking at our receipts. They pretty much saved the night so big up to them.
The next morning, Sherin and I had the room to ourselves cos Melissa and Sharon had a party to organise and everyone left with them so we treated ourselves to the huge comfy bed, bubble bath soaks and yummy waffles with maple syrup for working so hard. After so many occasions of pulling surprises for friends, its a good feeling to know that suspicion hasn't got the better of them. And that my friends is another successful (say it with me):

We almost missed our flight!
|
|
Not much to update on this trip to HK. Mario came with me this time and I brought him around a bit. We flew Cathay Pacific and it was an awesome flight (maybe I've been flying Valuair too much) but this flight came with individual TVs even though it was a short haul flight and they played very recent blockbusters like I Robot and Collateral and good comedys like The Office, Friends and the 70s show. Icing on the cake was when they served us Movenpick and Haagen Dazs ice cream for dessert. Wheee!
Reached HK on Tuesday the 2nd of Nov and had to go to the printers straight. Got a cabbie who was yelling at the top of his lungs 3/4 of the way. Not surprised, all HK cabbies yell. Finished early so brought Mario to Victoria Peak. This was the best weather I've experienced in HK. Cool winds and no rain! Took a couple of pics, finally got my night mode working this time so do check out some Peak Lookout pics! We had dinner at a fancy restaurant and grill where Mario shamelessly ordered the mixed grill and the lobster bisque along with a beer to wash it all down! I had a green curry with seedless grapes so I thought that was rather interesting! Took a walk down to Avenue of the Stars and camera died. arrghhhhhhhhh!!!
Wednesday was the hugest bummer of all. We meant to go for the horse races because horse racing is held only on Wednesdays and Saturdays. But this week was the only week in the WHOLE year that the races were on Tuesdays because of the Melbourne Cup Finals! We could have gone last night but we didn't realise it til this morning. Mario was extremely bummed out cos he was quite hell bent on going. This was his 2nd bummer of the trip. The first was when he had his swiss army knife confiscated in the airport cos he carried it in his hand luggage . Did a HK dinner - dumplings, hot and sour soup the works and went back to Avenue of the Stars so Mario could get his Jackie Chan square picture.
Thursday was the last night in HK so we hit Mongkok and the markets. Referring to the pic labeled "Mongkok buys" we bought:
1) Burberrys bag for Mum
2) Sequinned pretty lady bag for Sherin
3) Wife biscuits and almond cookies
4) Spidey for Mario
5) Boardshorts (5 bucks each!)
6) Mario's 2005 CNY outfit, in snazzy gold
7) Southpark coin tabongs for Nic
8 ) Boob stress balls that feel a lot like the real thing (therapeutic I can imagine)
9) LV shawl for Mum
10) Gucci trolley bag for me! (my one and only buy)
11) Cheongsam hp danglies and keychains for Mark
I must say Mario is a really good bargainer, he really had a way of knocking down prices. Had to do a few walks of shame cos only after we walk away do we realise that we're haggling for a mere dollar!
Friday was the drama day. Mum's friend in HK told us that we had to try the goose at this famous restaurant in Central. So after we checked in our bags, we proceeded even though we were running short on time. After we ordered thinking the goose would be worth the effort, but they told us they ran out! And we couldn't leave because we ordered other dishes! So we ran for our lives after that, we had an airport express train to get through, another train ride, a slow immigration officer, long lines of security and a 50 gate sprint before we reached our plane with 7 mins to spare! WHEW.
I never learn.
