Roti BoY Bake Shoppe

View all 11 photos...
We have a new shop in China Square. Its called Roti Boy and its tagline is: "Buns to Die For"!

Anyways what it really is, is soft bread with coffee cream swirls at the top and a tiny slab of butter inside so when its baked, its crispy on the outside and melty-oozy on the in! You dun taste too much of the coffee though, its more aromatic really. The queues its causing at anytime of the day! These guys sold 20,000 a day in KL. Well whatever the figures, we're fans!

My mum thinks the people who come up with ideas for the Amazing Race are geniuses. I think Mr RotiBoy himself is pretty much ranked up there too.

Mmm....sounds good enough for me!! I love watching Amazing Race too, it's um, amazing, . Thu 5-Aug-2004 10:47

I'm reading the Joyluck Club. Yes its 10 years too late but its a good thing cos being older now, you relate more to the trials and tribulations of these mothers, daughters and sisters. The stories are way heavy though.... If I had a story to tell like that, I prob wouldn't have lived to tell it cos I would have killed myself. And also remembering the virtues it took to be accepted during those times in China. Fair, small feet, demure and everything I'm not - Ms tea stained skin and feet the size of tree trunks!

K weekend recap: We finally watched Super Size Me!! Sherin and I! It was awesome! At first I thought, yeah what did you expect? Eating Mac's 3 times a day for 30 days but if anything, it was extremely entertaining! Morgan Spurlock was in outstanding health before he started his "diet" and at the end of it, his liver failed, he put on 25 pounds and became addicted to the junk he was eating. My favourite highlights of the show was when they actually poured out the amount of sugar he had consumed over the 30 days and it filled a huge bucket! It carried 30 pounds of pure sugar so that was one pound of sugar a day! If they asked him if he would like to Super Size his meal, he had to say yes, and if that was the case, ur coke was a 1.5L cup!!! After awhile, he said he had the Mctummy, Mcflushes, Mcpalpitations! By the 20th day, the doctors told him his cholesterol level was way high, his liver was failing and he was consuming upto 5000 calories a day!

5 kids when shown pictures of George Washington and Jesus Christ couldn't identify them but everyone of them knew who was Ronald McDonald. And 3 adults fumbled saying the American pledge three times but rattled off 2 all beef patties special sauce lettuce cheese pickles onions on a sesame seed button flawlessly! I think it ranked as my fav show this year! And if you guys have a chance to catch it, do so!

On Saturday, we went to shop for Shane's birthday present - the iPod! We went around Sim Lim and were comparing the Creative and the iPod and the latter came out tops! The 20GB iPod is now $548 (the 10GB used to cost this much but is now obsolete) and its the 4th generation which means its bloody nice and comes with just a scroller and no buttons. In short, its gorgeous. So Shane has a new toy!! After that Sherin and I met Mum and we had a 4 hour pampering session at this new spa that opened up. Body scrubs, massages, footspas, facials the works! My masseuse was really strong for a petite lady. She gave me a deep tissue massage where I whinced with every stroke and she stopped just when I was abt to yell in pain! But you feel really relaxed after that and I couldn't get out of bed the next morning! But hey, all that pain has to be good for you rite? Sherin had a chinese massage called Tuina and she really enjoyed it so we left very happy and very pampered.

Sunday (after crawling out of bed) was a full day, church service, Titus one month birthday, driving (my parallel parking is shitty, no other way to put it) and Private Parts at Esplanade. Our seats were very far and very high up, poor Rashida (our eyebrow lady came with us) was sitting through the whole thing with sweaty palms cos she was so scared of heights! Play was Ooooooookay, nothing much to rave about cept that I thought everyone was laughing at the not so funny parts and not laughing when the funny parts (which were not many) came out. What is it with the Esplanade and shawls? Everywhere you turn, you see women wearing shawls in every Joseph and the amazing technicolour dreamcoast colour. Its like standard Esplanade-wear. A shawl. And you see over the top dressed people with long ball-like skirts and shiny halter tops and elaborate jewellery when they're sitting in the $45 rows. Its not the opera so I really dun get it....

It was off to old faithful Shah Alam for supper and then back to hit my book with Waverly Place Jong and gang. Oh I also bought new red shoes from Tracce! 8 was too tight, 9 was too big and they have no half sizes so I bought the 9 (read up abt huge feet) and now I look like Ronald McDonald.

Its Monday Morning 5:19

My department is empty... boss has left... I'll have a new boss in the next couple of weeks so until then.... PARTAY!!!!

Watched a couple of shows over the weekend, Mean Girls on Friday (Hamza quipped: WOW, such an intellectual choice) I actually thought it was a good show, my fav character was Karen... I have the fifth sense its like I have ESPN or something Click on the link, and play "wardrobe week" under Games. I went complete crazy trying to figure the outfits out, but so fun! Go play!

Here's another website to play dress up! http://www.gillettevenus.com/win/?src=12&id=
You create your own virtual models, so you can make them blonde hair-blue eyed or red hair-green eyed or just slap some blue skin on them like Sherin did and ta-dah!!! Martians!!! Here are some samples above!

Saturday's movie was Connie and Carla. Was a lil disappointed, wasn't as laugh out loud funny as I thought it would be, was just too slow moving but beared very similiar resemblance to the classic Some Like It Hot.

Okie gtg book tickets for Mamma Mia, Private Parts and Mardi Gras.

Toodles!!! Will have a couple of pic updates tomorrow!

I loved Mean Girls too! It's quite scary tho', to think that people can be so mean. Have fun watching movies! Mon 26-Jul-2004 15:39

Melissa's Surgery @ SGH

Its been awhile since the last entry! Melissa underwent surgery last weekend to remove 2 cysts in her throat. She joined a professional choir and her choir director thought she should have her nodules checked cos her neck looked a lil swollen and thats when she discovered the cysts, So thank goodness she discovered it early and surgery was a success!

We spent both nights with her in the hospital which turned out really quite nice cos she got upgraded to an A+ room so we had the whole room to ourselves, carpet all and lots of space. Good thing is the hospital is not strict about visiting hours, how many people come at one time and noise level when you have a room on your own but they did draw the line when we proposed our hospital theme party of nurses costumes, syringe shots and "get high on glucose drips". Haiz....

We did manage however to entertain ourselves with the medical equipment in the room. Dr Helmy donned in his complete getup of stethoscope and all was taking my blood pressure when a real nurse walked in. His first instinct was to rip off the blood pressure device and hide behind the curtain in the room but he forgot the slight problem of me still being attached to it. I didn't help much cos I was going completely ballistic from laughing so hard. After we managed to compose ourselves however, we presented the nurse with everything she needed, but dun think she was too impressed though.

Nurses are ONE occupation I have utmost respect for. I know I could never do it, the mere sight of blood makes me go weak in the knees and these people go in day in day out taking care of weak, sick people and preserve their patience and remain unfazed when presented with gruesome situations. So all the nurses out there: A BIG UP TO YOU!

Oh! Another highlight of our stay were these Paris Bake donuts they sold at 7-11. Af first you think they are normal chocolate covered donuts rite? Then you pay your $1.60 rite? Then you bite into these lil lovelies and guess what lah? They squirt out hazelnut chocolate. Like Ondeh Ondehs! Wah!! They were absolutely heavenly and cos the food court wasn't in such proximity, we lived off Polar Cafe chicken pie and Paris Bake donuts as meal replacements!

This week was another jam packed activity Sunday. Left the hospital, church service, visited a new born baby, then met Hams at Bedok to buy food for Helmy's potluck and walked to his place. Whilst shopping for BBQ food, I broke my nice blue slippers (this is probably my 24th pair of broken footwear, I should wear cardboard cut outs under my feet and tie them with raffia to my ankles) then met the family at Jumbo restaurant to buy them a pig out dinner of pepper and chilli crabs!

hey!!!! Thanks for staying with me the last two days...even though i couldnt talk, it was like a holiday!!

DUNCAN THE CRAB:

Duncan the humble crab and Kate the Lobster Princess were MADLY,DEEPLY and PASSIONATELY in LOVE. For months they enjoyed an idyllic relationship until one day Kate scuttled over to Duncan in tears.

"We can't see each other anymore..." she SOBBED. "Why?" gasped Duncan. "Daddy says that crabs are too common," she wailed. "He claims you are a MERE crab, and a poor one at that, and crabs are the lowest class of crustacean...and that no daughter of his will marry someone who can only walk sideways."

Duncan was SHATTERED, and scuttled sideward away into the darkness and to drink himself into a filthy state of aquatic oblivion.

That night, the GREAT LOBSTER BALL was taking place. Lobsters came from far and wide, dancing and merry making, but the lobster Princess refused to join in, choosing instead to sit by her father's side, inconsolable. Suddenly the doors burst open, and Duncan the crab strode in.

The Lobsters all stopped their dancing, the Princess GASPED and the King Lobster rose from his throne. Slowly, PAINSTAKINGLY, Duncan the crab made his way across the floor...and all could see that he was walking, not sideways, but FORWARDS, one claw after another!

Step by step he made his approach towards the throne, until he finally looked King lobster in the eye.

There was a deadly hush..................................

For quite a while...........................

Finally, the crab spoke.......

"Boy I'm smashed"

Farewell Baggins! and Part 2 of Hyder & Iman's Wedding!

View all 35 photos...
Today was a productive day and I am so beat! After yesterday's massive dinner/supper at Blooie's, I couldn't sleep very well and got up at 7.30 to be at the airport to send Suhana off. I made her a door knob holder for her hostel room (cos thats about as creative as I can get) and gave it to her with a copy of "The Alchemist". Figured it was an appropriate book cos she always wanted to read it and it was all about chasing your dreams and the signs shown to you along the way etc.

She said she wouldn't cry but she did break down eventually when it came to saying goodbye to her mum, her auntie and her friends. She's in Melbourne now as I type this, the first day of the rest of her life! How exciting! We had breakfast after that together, a few of us, Hammie came to join us after he finished work. After we discussed a common dress code for the wedding - "Traditional", I ran off to make church service and then went to the wedding straight after.

After lunch, we discovered the best Putri Salat on the table, so we got obsessed and went on a "Kueh Quest". Melissa pulled through and found a plate so she shared her loot with us and you can see pics of a very satisfied Melissa below! After lunch, we left and went to Sherin's house to have a cuppa cha cos Ajay had to kill time til 8pm when he had to go back to work. So just chilled out in our punjabi suits watching Friends reruns and cute babies on AFV over otah-otahs and, putu pirings and chocolate cake.

Very eventful day and I'm just about ready to collapse. Guess my Energiser Bunny batteries do eventually run out!

Sounds like an emotional day...heh. Chocolate cake's scrummy!! Sun 11-Jul-2004 23:50
