Got inspired to cook cos I watched Oliver's Kitchen the past 2 days. I lurve the guy, he's so clean, animated, interesting and uncomplicated. Who else can make English trifle in 5 mins? Jamie Oliver can. Instead of running out and buying custard and whipping cream for trifle, I decided to get productive and cook a whole dinner, can't remember the last I did anyways and it came out quite well. Quite proud of my dumpling soup and sweet & sour fish, so kudos to MOI!
Sherin got inspired too so she came over and made a chicken that can rival anything you've eaten at B Boss. Chicken ala Angel! Very wholesome food with golden pan fried potatoes. Pictures taken of our hard work and not bad results!
A few of us met for Sue's farewell dinner, she's leaving on Sunday morning to Melbourne... she's in the midst of packing and I'm in the midst of absorbing the fact that she's going to be gone for a whole year. I called Hammie and asked him if he could join us or if he was working today. To which he said:
Hams: What day is it today?
Maria: Wednesday.
Hams: Yeah I'm working.
Maria: Where are you now?
Hams: In the office.
Classic! There he was working in the office and asking me what day! So during dinner we thought of 2 more Hammie gold classics.
#1: Hams has a flight at 4pm and realises he's extremely late for it. Makes a mad dash to the airport, reaching the check in counter at 3:30 (last call, probably called his name already) calmly whips out his passport and cooly tells the staff: "Window seat ah" (!!!!!)
#2: We're staying over at Sue's birthday party and we want a late checkout. Hams convinces us he's really good people skills and is sure to convince the front desk to let us check out at 4 instead of 2pm. What we hear from Hams on the phone: "Hi can we request for a late checkout? 2? No later? Pleeeeeeeassssseeee? Can we please check out later! Ok thank you!" Then he announces we get to check out at 230. !
What a sayang though, hope we'll all get to meet for Farewell coffee on Friday!

Saturday - Sunday in JB
|
|
Photos came before this entry. Now just trying to put some words to the awesome weekend we had! Actually went to JB quite late cos we did a little bit of running around. First to see Chris and her new born baby, the three week old Elyse! Pics of her will be up soon, she looks exactly like her mum and has a full head of hair, she is too cute! Then we wanted to go to a friends grandmothers wake but we didn't make it for that cos by the time rites were finished it was too late to go. Here we were visiting a new birth, going to a funeral and attending a friends wedding. What a day of "LIFE"...
We only got to the cab stands about 7:15, then we waited for Suhana til 7:30 then Faiz asked to wait for him til 8:30 and we were like why not? He had to bribe us with ice cream and coffee so when we agreed to a deal of Swensens Earthquakes and Starbucks Frappers, our dear friend turns around and said his deal he had in mind was Paddlepop and Cafe 21. Gee.... THANKS!
Got into a cab and reached our hotel. Or rather, apartment! It was huge! Like a lil rustic chalet house in Bintan. We were right in the city but it was nice.... Boys already choped the room with the bathtub so we settled in the other room and called Melissa's cousin, Sheldon. He was really nice, came to pick us up and drove us to this place called Bongo's where they had a pretty good live band. We had one drink before the highlight of my trip came - Supper.
Came back to watch Shallow Hal with a few people in the room who just came back from Iman's house. I lurve that show! The killer scene was when Gwyneth Paltrow saw Hal with another woman and after sobbing in the toilet, she passes him on the way out and says Hi really sadly. He walks past her and goes: HELLO! *hilarious* So after that we had our bonding sessions and spa treatments, facials and bathsoaks for everyone before we knocked out at 5 in the morning. I was surprised that everyone managed to get up for breakfast at 9.30. All except for yours truly, I think on the list of priorities, sleep ranks before food. I think I'm only saying that cos I had supper at 1 in the morning to "tide me over"!
K so bada bing bada boo, we got ready in the morning, dumped our bags at the Pan Pac and reached the wedding abt 3 which was good time really cos the bride and groom reached shortly after. Iman looked absolutely stunning! Faiz caught some really nice shots of her so will upload those when he finds time to get his pics up. Expect them in December 2005 cos I am still waiting for my friendster testimonial since it was promised at the beginning of this year! Stuffed ourselves silly at the wedding and ogled at all the pretty Arab women at the wedding.... Some of them are just jaw droppingly beautiful!
Had to squeeze in some shopping at the Factory Outlet Store at City Square before coming home. We made the mistake of dropping off at Lakin so we had to pay $60 sing bucks for someone to drive us all the way home which really wasn't a bad deal cos he drove 4 of us right to our doorstep. So yeah that was JB, its KL in 3 weeks time so chocolate buffets here we come!

2nd trip to HK.... and still not the last.
|
|
Coming back to Singapore was a breeze... literally.... the weather in HK was no joke. The heaattt my god, the HEAT!! It was 35-37 degrees out easy... some of the hottest days HK has seen. Didn't watch my water intake so came back with various signs of a heaty body system. Its an asian thing ah? This heaty cooling stuff? That coupled with the two and a half pounds of lychees I must have whacked. They are so fat and juicy and they have the tiniest of seeds... fleshy lil buggers, sorta like eating durians!
So anyways, it was muggy out all day and phwoar! Cab fares to my printers (there and back for 2 days) added up to about 200 sing bucks! Its so boring sitting at the printers, I bought a 200 page book on one morning I went and finished it in the same day. That was the same day I carried coffee with me on the cab, fell asleep and woke up with warm hazelnut latte all over the seat and floor of the cab.... Ran out before I was spewed upon with Cantonese vulgarities.... (my bad) The people at the HK printers are a joy to work with, highly efficient and sooo incredibly polite.... and I walk around HK and realise I never see a fatty. They're all really thin people! I'm moving to HK oh wait but there's the heat....
Did the usual, The Peak, Lan Kwai Fong, Times Square, Tsim Sha Tsui, met Neerja and her new born baby, (she's who I am covering for whilst on maternity leave), another colleague for the whole dim sum thing and came back today around 3pm.
HIGHLIGHT: Publisher calls today at 5pm to say that IBM submitted a wrong ad and would like to have the WHOLE MAGAZINE PRINTED AGAIN with new copy. All that for one page. So guess who is going to HK first thing on Monday? 2 days after I am back..... I'm not unpacking. And I'm flying SIA.

Bummer!
|
|
They have black and white peanut M&Ms now!
After work we intended to catch Kumar, Hossan Leong and Joe Augustine in an hour of stand up comedy at Long Bar. I didn't get to see the queue but tickets didn't go on pre sale and the line was snaking and snaking. There was no way they were going to fit in so many people there so they gave out tickets for next month's performance. Dun really know what the latter half of the queue were doing though.... So we ended uo in Can Cafe instead! Been awhile since we went after hearing horror stories of peanuts that cost $12 (which are true by the way)
I wonderfully bashed my face in today whilst leaving work - wun tell you how (ok,accident) and what (fine, glass door) i bashed against. But wah, the spring of tears that threatened.... I thot my nose bled for a good 2 secs cos of the sensation (already I have issues with my delightfully pakorra shaped schnoz, this can't be good!) Hurt at the bridge for the longest time, and suddenly visions of Biore Pore Pack shaped things on my nose for 4 weeks flashed together with images of the bashing that comes with rhinoplasty! And the pain subsided....
Leaving you with an excerpt from Seinfeld:
The technical term for a nose job is rhinoplasty. Rhino, okay? Do we really need to insult the person at this particular moment of their lives? They know they have a big nose, that's why they're coming in. Do they really need the abuse of being compared to a rhinoceros on top of everything else? When someone goes in for a hair transplant, they don't go, "We're going to perform a cue-ballectomy on you, Mr. Johnson. We're going to attempt to remove the skinheadia of your chrome-domus which is the technical term.

Faiz's Birthday!
|
|
Faiz turns 26 today! Think the second time we met was at his 22nd birthday, 4 years just whizzed right by! I was still a teenager then... 19 but still....
He wanted a pair of Juliet sunglasses, (this is the same person who already has 2 pairs of Oakleys at home, the Racing Jacket and the Splice) why he would want a 3rd hideously priced pair of glasses is beyond any of my comprehension!
So a few of us pooled in for his Juliet fund, complete with a certificate issued by us the ABFSRFF (The Association of Best Friends who Support their Retarded Friend Faiz) and clearly stated for "your perverse indulgence for ridiculously extravagantly priced, femininely named spectacles". Just call us creative...
Had drinks and bites at Europa Bistro at International Building, talked abt water theme parks (downtown east is crappy apparantly and expensive), weddings (Hyder & Iman's), abusive relationships (this woman who called in a radio show and genuinely believed her abuse was justified) Opus Dei (cult? approved catholic organization? 85,000 members!), our upcoming JB trip (Roti Bom Susu and Maggi Gorengs here we come) and diets (where Luthfie mistook "wheat" for "weed")
Don't know how the rest of the night went by cos we left early but if birthdays are anything to go by, I'm guessing some Flaming Lamborghinis were in order.
Happy Birthday Faiz!!!!

How do you say you want to get to this place?
|
|
|
FW: For all the chain letters sent to me:.
To all my friends, thanks to you sending me chain letters in 2003:
* I stopped drinking Coca Cola after I found out that it's good for
removing toilet stains.
* I stopped going to the movies for fear of sitting on a needle
infected with AIDS.
* I smell like a dog since I stopped using deodorants because they
cause cancer.
* I don't leave my car in the parking lot or any other place and
sometimes I even have to walk about 7 blocks for fear that someone
will drug me with a perfume sample and try to rob me.
* I also stopped answering the phone for fear that they ask me to
dial a stupid number and then I get a phone bill from hell with calls
to Uganda, Denmark and Tokyo.
* I stopped consuming several foods for fear that the estrogens they
contain may turn me gay.
* I also stopped eating chicken and hamburgers because they are
nothing other than horrible mutant freaks with no eyes or feathers
that are bred in a lab so that places like McDonalds can sell their
Big Macs.
* I also stopped drinking anything out of a can for fear that I will
get sick from the rat feces and urine.
* I think I'm turning gay because when I go to parties, I don't look
at any girl no matter how hot she is, for fear that she will take my
kidneys and leave me taking a nap in a bathtub full of ice.
* I also donated all my savings to the Amy Bruce account. A sick
girl that was about to die in the hospital about 7,000 times. Funny
that girl, she's been 7 since 1993...
* I went bankrupt from bounced checks that I made expecting the
$15,000 that Microsoft and AOL were supposed to send me when I
participated in their special e-mail program.
* My Ericcson phone never arrived and neither did the passes for a
paid vacation to Disneyland.
* But I am positive that all this is because of a stinking chain that
broke or forgot to follow and I got a curse from hell.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you don't send this e-mail to at least 1200 people
in the next 10 seconds, a bird will crap on you today at 7pm.

2 Stayovers and 1 Fake Birthday
|
|
Thursday: Stayover #1 was at Sherin's house today. We decided to get productive so we went shopping for groceries and Sherin cooked up a mean tomato rice, yellow dhal and butter chicken curry combo. Mel and I were faithful assistants, a lil chop here, a lil peel there and a lil run for some tumeric powder so we were well rewarded with the fruits of our efforts when dinner was ready. Pics attached for those going: "Yeah rite, like they can cook! Hah!"
Friday: Stayover #2 was at my place since the house was empty. Mark was in Cairns, Mario was in Bintan and Mum was in Jakarta. Stayed in to watch old reruns of Friends and Seinfeld. Apologies for the poor pics, Mark took my cam on his trip and I had to borrow Faiz's and still haven't really got it entirely figured out.
Funny Note: There are ads by google on the side of fotopages that I think correspond to the main topics of your content. Eg: Travel diaries for people who log in their travel adventures and take pics of their holidays. Once, this fotopage had an ad for "Food Journal: Guranteed to lose weight" Considering the amount of pics we take of food more than people. coincidence......?
Saturday: We ordered in McDonald's brekkie at 3 mins to 11am, then had to go driving. Instructor today was classic. He speaks to you in a normal softspoken voice but when its time for an instruction, he yells at the top of his lungs.
Example: "Oh so you work for a magazine ah? Are you a writer? IN FRONT TURN LEFT! You look Malay ah, oh you're not ah? K U TURN IN FRONT HERE AH! Geez talk about heart palpitations. And there isn't a single female driving instructor in Ubi. Are women really worse drivers than men? Know what? Don't answer that.
We went to Igor's at night. When they asked us at the entrance if we were celebrating a special occasion, we just whacked and said it was Sharon's birthday. Of course Sharon had no idea. And of course Sharon's birthday was in March. We had to first walk through the dungeon/tunnel and I remember it to be a lil scarier than the last time I came... the make up on the cast and waiters were awesome!! It was pretty packed and "Interlude with a Vampire" complete with Lestat and Lucifer although wasn''t great was a lot better than the previous play they put up previously. Then when they announced the birthday wishes and shouted Sharon, she was sure it was someone else until someone came and ushered her to the stage! She didn't mind too much though.... she had a shot waiting for her. And about 10 people who wished her a very happy birthday after.

Mario's 28th Birthday
|
|
Mario turns 28 today!! I got him the best birthday present ever but in view that his pics are uploaded here and the present hasn't arrived yet, I shall refrain from spilling the beans. We (Sherin & Maria), dropped in his party for some food and games. We had a "Who knows Mario best"game and came up with questions like what Mario always does when he farts, what was the only thing he packed when he ran away from home at the age of 5, what he bought after he conned everyone around him to donate to a fake charity.... Should have been called the Mario Expose....
We went to see David Morales last night. His set was all right but his attitude stank. Didn't interact with the crowd, puts on a record and walks around, smokes, packs his bag so when his disappointing finish was done, he could just grab his bag and dash out of zouk. In a flash! He didn't stick around for an encore (no more Morales!!), didn't stick around to sign a measly autograph and never onced smiled. But music was kinda all right so all in all pretty glad we went for some dooshtaks!
